Would you Survive a day at Wonka’s Chocolate Factory?

Staying true to your diet is already difficult. Some of us eat unhealthy when we’re stressed or overworked, others break their diet to celebrate something good in their lives. Now imagine that the Chocolate Factory from Roald Dahl’s legendary book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, was real. Celebrating or not, I think most of us would have a hard time not pigging out.

The engineers over at Advanced Technology Services conducted a fun experiment where they brought Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory to life and did the math to see if this fictional operation could be feasible in our world today. As you probably guessed, it’s quite an expensive feat to bring the Chocolate Factory to real life. Willy spares no expense when it comes to the other aspects of his magical building. Running the numbers, the river made of chocolate would need 150,000 gallons of chocolate, costing Wonka a whopping $32.6 million. That number quickly becomes a nonfactor when you find out how much a chocolate river or flying elevator would set you back! We’re talking over $109 Million for the elevator alone. Now this technology doesn’t exactly exist, so we took some liberties and equated it to the cost of an elevator plus a state-of-the-art rocket.
